비디갤러리에서는 5월 21일부터 6월 20일까지 김성윤, 서호성, 오혁진, 최우 작가의 4인전인 <다시 피어나는 우리>를 진행한다. 이번 전시는 서로 다른 시간과 감정들이 교차하며 드러나는 상처와 회복, 그리고 다시 피어나는 삶의 순간들을 이야기한다. 관계의 미완성과 내면의 흔들림은 흩어졌다 다시 쌓이는 물질의 감각 속에서 이어지고, 시간의 흔적들은 과거와 현재를 느슨하게 연결한다. 네 명의 작가들은 각자의 방식으로 세계를 구축하며 흔들림 속에서도 이어지는 삶의 가능성을 탐색하고, 그 과정에서 위로와 희망이 함께 머무는 감각적 형상이 드러나게 된다.
김성윤 작가에게 ‘달’은 풍요로운 삶과 행운을 상징하는 핵심적인 모티프이다. 달빛은 사유의 공간인 숲과 쉼의 장소인 집을 따뜻하게 비추고, 금빛 가루처럼 쏟아지는 빛은 희망의 이미지를 형상화한다. 작가는 나뭇잎의 다양한 형태와 질감을 관찰하고 이를 겹쳐 찍는 방식으로 숲을 구성하며, 그 과정을 통해 사유와 안식의 공간을 구축한다. 또한 새해의 기원과 일상 속 소망처럼 가족과 타인의 안녕을 바라는 마음을 작품에 담아, 관람자에게 따뜻한 위안과 긍정의 기운을 전한다.
서호성 작가는 내면에 잠재된 다양한 사랑의 형태와 그 의미를 탐구하며, 성장의 과정 속에서 마주하는 서툴고 미완된 감정들을 담담하게 풀어낸다. 아이에서 어른으로 나아가는 여정은 늘 낯설지만, 작가는 세상이 원하는 완벽한 모습이 아니어도 괜찮다는 메시지를 전한다. 실타래 같은 관계 속에서 발생하는 갈등과 화합, 그리고 그로 인한 치유의 순간들을 가볍지만 깊이 있게 포착하며, 서로 다른 존재들이 이해로 나아가는 과정을 그린다. 또한 일상의 사소한 감정들에 깃든 의미를 조명하며, 달콤함과 씁쓸함이 공존하는 감정을 위트 있게 재해석한다. 작가의 작업은 각자의 고유한 색을 찾아가는 여정 속에서, 결과보다는 과정 자체에 담긴 사랑의 가치를 일깨운다.
오혁진 작가는 저마다의 결핍과 상처를 안고 살아가는 우리 내면의 ‘아이’에 주목하며, 그들의 목소리를 시각화한다. 이유 없는 슬픔과 공허 속에 머무는 존재들은 꿈속의 자연이라는 안식처에서 비로소 위로를 얻고, 작은 흔적을 남긴다. 모래라는 매개는 흩어지고 쌓이는 과정을 통해 삶과 닮은 순환적 구조를 드러내며, 상처 또한 소멸이 아닌 새로운 형태로 축적됨을 상기시킨다. 부서짐과 축적됨을 반복하는 모래처럼, 인간 역시 고난 속에서 다시 단단해질 수 있음을 말한다. 작가의 작업은 이러한 내면의 아이들이 스스로의 세계를 쌓아가는 과정을 담아내고, 조용한 위로와 지속 가능한 희망의 가능성을 전한다.
최우 작가는 인간 존재의 시작과 끝, 그리고 그 사이를 가로지르는 감정들을 탐구한다. 고대 벽화의 원시적 감각에서 출발한 작가의 작업은 삶과 기원, 생성과 소멸, 희로애락의 순간들을 자유로운 형식 안에서 풀어낸다. 흑연, 크레용, 유화, 아크릴, 과슈, 금속 부식 등 다양한 재료를 활용하며, 특히 부식된 금속 표면은 시간의 흔적, 감정과 기억을 응축한 또 하나의 얼굴로 기능한다. 작가는 손으로 긋고, 긁고, 쌓아 올리는 반복의 행위를 통해, 과거와 현대를 넘나드는 인간 존재의 숭고한 서사를 화면 위에 담아낸다.
Vidi Gallery is pleased to present Blooming Anew: Us, a four-artist exhibition featuring works by KIM Seong-yun, SEO Ho-sung, OH Hyuck-jin, and CHOI Woo, running from May 21 to June 20. This exhibition encapsulates the intersections of disparate times and emotions, articulating moments of vulnerability, restoration, and the vibrant renewal of life.The incompleteness of relationships and inner turbulence are tethered together within the tactile sensation of matter that disperses and rebuilds, while the vestiges of time loosely bridge the past and the present. Each of the four artists constructs their own unique world to explore the enduring possibilities of life amidst instability, giving rise to sensory forms where comfort and hope reside.
For KIM Seong-yun, the "moon" serves as a central motif symbolizing a prosperous life and good fortune. The moonlight warmly illuminates the forest—a space for contemplation—and the home—a sanctuary for rest—while light cascading like golden dust shapes images of hope. By observing the diverse forms and textures of leaves and layering their prints, the artist composes a forest, constructing a space of reflection and repose. Furthermore, Kim infuses the works with heartfelt wishes for the well-being of family and others—akin to New Year's prayers and everyday desires—offering viewers a sense of warm solace and positive energy.
SEO Ho-sung explores the diverse forms and meanings of love latent within the inner self, calmly unraveling the clumsy and incomplete emotions encountered in the process of growth. Though the journey from childhood to adulthood is invariably unfamiliar, the artist delivers a reassuring message that it is perfectly fine not to fit the world's definition of perfection. Capturing both the conflicts and harmonies arising within the tangled threads of relationships—and the subsequent moments of healing—with a light yet profound touch, Seo depicts the process through which different beings move toward mutual understanding. He also illuminates the significance embedded in the mundane emotions of daily life, wittily reinterpreting feelings where sweetness and bitterness coexist. In the journey to discover one's unique color, Seo's work reminds us of the value of love inherent in the process itself, rather than the ultimate destination.
OH Hyuck-jin focuses on the "child" within us, who lives with individual deficiencies and wounds, giving visual form to their unspoken voices. Existing in a state of unprovoked sorrow and emptiness, these inner beings finally find consolation and leave small traces within a sanctuary of dreamlike nature. The medium of sand, through its process of scattering and accumulating, reveals a cyclical structure akin to life, reminding us that trauma does not vanish but accumulates into new forms. Like sand that repeatedly breaks down and builds back up, human beings too can grow stronger through adversity. Oh's work captures the process of these inner children building their own worlds, delivering a quiet comfort and the possibility of sustainable hope.
CHOI Woo investigates the beginning and end of human existence, as well as the spectrum of emotions that span between them. Drawing from the primitive sensibilities of ancient murals, the artist’s work freely explores life and prayers, creation and extinction, and the heights of joy and depths of sorrow. Utilizing an array of materials including graphite, crayon, oil, acrylic, gouache, and metal corrosion, Choi employs the corroded metal surface as an alternative visage that condenses the traces of time, emotion, and memory. Through the repetitive acts of drawing lines, scratching, and layering by hand, the artist weaves a sublime narrative of human existence on the canvas, traversing the realms of the past and the contemporary.
