비디갤러리에서는 08월 29일부터 09월 18일까지 이효선 작가의 네 번째 개인전 <Still Inside>를 진행한다.
Still Inside : 머묾과 이탈 사이
우리는 끝없는 선택과 결정의 순간 속에서 살아간다. 하지만 인공지능과 알고리즘이 만들어내는 ‘나만의 세계’ 속에서 점차 고립되고 있다. 이러한 맞춤형 정보는 개인에게 자율성과 확장된 경험을 제공하는 듯 보이지만, 동시에 외부와 단절된 폐쇄적 공간을 만든다. 이효선 작가의 개인전 <Still Inside>는 이러한 자율적 고립의 양면성을 시각적으로 탐구한다.
이효선 작가의 ‘Still Inside’ 연작은 이미지의 일부를 확대하고 재구성해 연속된 서사를 만드는 시각적 기법인 ‘줌-인이즘(Zoom-inism)’의 네 번째 시리즈이다. 화면 속 이미지는 확장되지만, 실제 프레임은 점차 축소되는 구성을 통해, 좁아지는 시야와 고립된 내면의 심리를 은유한다. 그러나 캔버스의 이미지들은 개인의 내면세계를 깊숙이 확대해 들어가는 과정을 역설적으로 보여준다.
재현된 내면은 환상적이고 아름답게 그려지지만, 이전 화면의 영향 아래 변형되며 한정된 개인의 공간 안에서 반복된다. 확장되어 가는 이미지, 축소되는 프레임, 더 나아가 Still Inside 연작 시리즈는 현실과 가상의 경계 너머, 머묾과 이탈 사이에서 아름답고 환상적인 개별성으로 머물지, 아니면 그 경계를 넘어설지 선택을 묻는다.
곡선 너머의 감각, 순환하는 존재들
작품은 신체, 자연, 사물 간의 관계를 통해, 존재의 연결성을 추동하며 현전한다. 인물과 대상은 곡선의 유동적인 형태로 추상화되고, 이러한 곡선적 추상은 문명화된 세계를 시각적으로 해체한다. 이는 존재의 연결과 순환을 상징하며, 초현실적인 경험을 생성한다. 유화 재료를 사용하면서도 동양 회화의 아득한 그라데이션과 생명화된 선묘법을 통해 대상의 유기적인 연속성이 펼쳐진다.
작품에 등장하는 모든 형상은 고정된 정체성을 벗어나 변화와 확장의 가능성을 지닌 미결정적 존재로 나타난다. 이들은 언어를 넘어 신체적 감각과 비언어적 교감을 통해 존재 간의 연결을 탐구한다. 동시에 신화적 시간과 개인 경험, 시문학에서 차용한 메타포적 요소들이 작품 전반에 침투되어 정체성, 그리고 탈-정체성에 대한 다층적 서사를 형성한다.

Still Inside: Between Dwelling and Departure
Hyo Sun Lee’s solo exhibition Still Inside presents a timely meditation on autonomy and isolation in the algorithmic age. We live in an era of endless choices, yet increasingly inhabit closed, personalized worlds shaped by artificial intelligence. What appears as expanded freedom often conceals a subtle confinement. Lee’s new series visually explores this paradox, balancing between presence and withdrawal, reality and virtuality.
The exhibition marks the fourth chapter of her ongoing Zoom-inism practice—a visual method of magnifying and reassembling fragments to create unfolding narratives. In Still Inside, images expand outward, but the frame itself contracts, metaphorically narrowing vision while pulling viewers deeper into the inner self. This interplay of expansion and reduction reflects the dual nature of contemporary experience: the lure of infinite possibility and the quiet solitude of isolation.
Lee’s canvases are fantastical and dreamlike, yet never static. Figures, landscapes, and objects dissolve into fluid curves that evoke both organic vitality and abstract circulation. The works suggest a world where the boundaries between body, nature, and object are porous—where everything is in motion, connected and transformed. Painted in oil but infused with the subtle gradations and flowing brushwork of East Asian traditions, the surfaces open onto shifting, surreal dimensions.
Each image resists fixed identity, presenting beings in flux, poised between transformation and repetition. At times mythic, at times intimate, Lee’s visual language draws on poetry, memory, and nonverbal sensation to shape a layered narrative of identity and dis-identity. The viewer is invited to ask: do we remain “still inside,” suspended in a fragile and enchanting inner world, or do we move across the threshold into something beyond?
With Still Inside, Lee continues her exploration of visual storytelling that is at once personal and universal—immersing audiences in the tension between autonomy and connection, solitude and expansion, dwelling and departure.
